NA-A9 HOUSING FOR THE SONY ALPHA 9

NA-A9 (17419)

Sony has certainly delivered an impressive pro level camera with the Alpha a9 Mirrorless Digital Camera. With outstanding capabilities like continuous shooting up to 20 fps and internal UHD 4K video recording, the 24 Megapixel full-frame Stacked CMOS Image Sensor in the a9 deserves the finest underwater housing available. Nauticam housings have the most ergonomic and intuitive control layout in the industry. Every control is well thought-out, every button, lever and switch considered not in terms of what is easier for the designer, but what is right for the shooter. The Nauticam NA-A9 housing provides fingertip access to all key camera controls in a rugged and reliable aluminum underwater housing. Even with all of the innovative designs that go into our housings, we understand that not every photographer has the same needs, so we offer an extensive collection of accessories and underwater optics to enhance your NA-A9 system.

INTEGRATED VACUUM CHECK AND LEAK DETECTION SYSTEM

M14 Vacuum Valve II (25624)

The Nauticam vacuum check and leak detection system is shipped with NA-A9 as standard equipment. Combined with an accessory vacuum valve added to the M14 port on the housing, this monitoring system provides constant updates on the water tight and safe-to-dive status of the housing. A simple color coded LED lighting system lets the user know that the vacuum is solid, or that the housing is losing vacuum. Leak detection is built into the same circuit, so if there is water intrusion, an audible and visual indication will occur.

The Nauticam system is temperature compensated, eliminating false alarms caused by a change in outside temperature, or from a camera heating up on an action packed dive!

There are two conveniently placed buttons for rearming the system. One located at the port opening used when changing lenses and a second at the back of the housing, used when changing batteries and memory cards.

VIEWFINDER OPTIONS

180º Enhanced Viewfinder (32201)

45º Enhanced Viewfinder (32203)

The NA-A9 standard optical-glass viewfinder is very good and travel friendly, but many photographers prefer the ease of a magnified viewfinder. An accessory enlarging viewfinder allows the a9’s large 3.7M-dot OLED viewfinder (1280 x 960 pixels) with up to 120 fps refresh to be seen in its full glory! These enhanced viewfinders can be used for both still and video shooting. Still images can be reviewed without ever taking your eye away from the viewfinder. For video, the viewfinder adds a third point of contact to help stabilize your shots and offers a clear view of the OLED viewfinder even in the brightest conditions.

Nauticam produces a “straight” 180º enhanced viewfinder and a 45º angled enhanced viewfinder. Both viewfinders have high quality optics, and allow bright viewing of the entire image. Perfect for evaluating critical focus and composition. A patented external dioptric adjustment allows personalization to the users eyesight. Viewfinder changes can be executed in just a few seconds without using any tools. This is extremely convenient when breaking down a kit for travel. As an added bonus, the viewfinders have extra clearance that provides more room for your regulator’s second stage.

MODERN OPTICS FOR IN WATER USE

WWL-1 Wet-mount Wide Angle Lens (83201) (130º Diagonal with 28mm)

Inspired by the water contact lens designs of decades before, Nauticam is continually developing new optical accessories that raise the bar of what is possible in underwater imaging.  Designed with modern lens design software, and fully optimized for in water use, these lenses provide significantly better performance than an in air lens behind a dome or flat port alone.

Stunningly sharp, the Sony FE 28mm f/2 Lens combined with our WWL-1 (Wet Wide Lens) offers a 130º diagonal angle of view with the best overall image quality we’ve seen for Sony Full Frame E Mount Systems. This 130º field of view sits between the popular full frame fisheye lenses (180º diagonal) and ultra wide 16mm rectilinear zooms (approximately 110º). The WWL-1 will focus on its front element for unmatched close-focus wide-angle performance.

SMC-1 (81201) 2.1:1 Reproduction Ratio with Sony 90mm

SMC-2 (81202) 3.3:1 Reproduction Ratio with Sony 90mm

The SMC-1 (2.1:1 Reproduction Ratio) and SMC-2 (3.3:1 Reproduction Ratio) combined with the Sony 90mm Macro Lens will change the way you approach macro photography. Prior to the Super Macro Converters, achieving “super macro” underwater meant using tools that were designed for in air use. These tools simply do not take into account the physics of shooting through water. The SMC 1 and 2 take a radically different approach: treat the system – camera, lens, port, air, and water – as a whole, and account for the air-water interfaces in a conversion lens design to achieve the best image quality possible. The improvement is stunning, measurable and a new standard in underwater macro imaging has been established.

M67 Flip Diopter Holder for M67 Macro Ports (25101)

M67 Double Flip Diopter Holder for M67 Macro Ports (25108)

Flip adaptors are a fast and convenient way to go from the 1:1 capabilities of the FE 90mm f/2.8 macro lens to the super macro powers of the SMC-1 and SMC-2.  A single flip or double flip adaptor allows the perfect accessory lens to be dropped and locked into place when needed!

LENSES AND PORTS

Sharing the same lens port accessories as the Nauticam NA-A7II housing, a list of thirteen Sony FE mount lenses are currently supported. An adaptor allows the entire N120 DSLR lens lineup to be used as well, supporting the popular Canon EF lenses attached to the A9 with an EF to Sony E mount lens adapter. Also available is an adaptor to attach the water contact UW-Nikkor series lenses originally used on the Nikonos underwater range finder systems. From ultra wide fisheye lenses to long macros, the Nauticam A9 system has all focal lengths covered. The iconic Nauticam port locking lever allows effortless port changes.  No twisting required, just press and lock. This is a patented Nauticam feature, found on no other housing, that provides unmatched ease of use!

A full list of supported lenses, ports, extension rings, focus and zoom gears can be found here.

FLASH TRIGGERING

Mini flash trigger for Sony (26302)

Universal fiber optic cable system (26216)

An optional LED flash trigger provides rapid fire strobe triggering with optical slave strobes over fiber optic cables. A new universal fiber optic cable set provides reliable triggering with all popular optical slave strobes!

Nikonos 5-pin bulkhead with universal hotshoe connection (25056)

For flash systems that use electrical sync cables, a Nikonos Bulkhead can be added to the M16 port on the housing.

TRIPOD MOUNTING BALL SET

Tripod Mounting Ball Set (25218)

Mounting points for three industry standard 1″ mounting balls are machined directly into the bottom of the housing, eliminating the need for accessory brackets to attach tripod legs. Just add three 400mm double ball arms (72206) and three standard clamps (72501) for a sturdy tripod.

EXTERNAL VIDEO MONITOR

NA-502H (17906)

HDMI Bulkhead (25033)

External video monitors like the Small HD 501 or 502 HDMI housed in a NA-502H offer additional features like false color and pixel zoom. Mounting an external monitor on top of the housing can make composition and framing much easier. The Small HD 502 features cross conversion from HDMI to SDI allowing you to feed an SDI surface monitor. To use an external monitor housing like the Nauticam NA-502H, add an accessory HDMI bulkhead to the M16 port on the housing.
