Jason Isley trained as an underwater cameraman in Australia in 1996 before moving to Sabah, Malaysian Borneo to co-found noted underwater film and photography company, Scubazoo. In the years since, Jason has filmed all over the world on productions, including the Disney IMAX production Sacred Planet, Journeys of a Lifetime with Minnie Driver, Nick Baker’s Weird Creatures for National Geographic channel, Perfect Predators for Discovery Channel’s Shark Week and BBC’s emmy award winning Life series.
From 2006 he focused on photography full-time, becoming the driving force behind Scubazoo’s publications division. He was pivotal in the production of their first book ‘Sipadan-Mabul-Kapalai, Sabah’s Underwater Treasure’, and then managed the publication of 6 more coffee table books for Scubazoo including ‘reef’ and his quirky ‘Small Blue World’. He is frequently in the field shooting for Scubazoo’s book projects or shooting behind the scenes on big broadcast projects such as BBC’s ‘Blue Planet 2’, ‘Seven Worlds’, Netflix’s ‘Our Ocean’, ‘Conquest of the Skies’ with David Attenborough, and the upcoming Disney feature, ‘The Real Finding Nemo’.
Having a fantastic understanding of the underwater realm Jason has always managed to capture remarkable behavior shots, which are his real passion. Diving on rebreather and being involved in broadcast projects has enabled him to spend long periods of time underwater and witness some incredible behaviors. Jason’s relationship with Nauticam began in 2009 with a chance meeting with founder Edward Lai at KBR Resort in Lembeh. Since then he has tested various housings, the WACP and also pushed for the EMWL at the very early stages. having used a custom scope when working on Blue Planet 2.
