Canon EOS-M5

The EOS M5 with it’s 24.2 dual-pixel autofocus CMOS sensor certainly has some nice features. Its abundant external controls and built-in EVF allow for quick changes when shooting both stills and Full-HD 60p video. Packed into a small light mirrorless body, it uses the same proven image sensor that’s found in Canon’s popular 80D DSLR. Even though the EOS M5 is only about half the size of many Canon DSLRs it’s not light on performance. It can shoot up to 7fps (9fps with AF lock) which is fast and accurate. There are currently seven Canon EF-M mount lenses but with the addition of the EOS EF-M adapter, all of Canon’s EF and EF-S lenses can be used. Simply put, the EOS-M5 offers DSLR image quality with camcorder style autofocus in a mirrorless body.

Nauticam NA-EOS-M5

The NA-EOSM5 (17326) incorporates all of the functionality of Nauticam DSLR systems in an extremely compact package. It’s the perfect kit for a compact shooter looking to move into a interchangeable lens system or anyone who wants a small light setup without compromising image quality. Below are just a few of the accessories available to enhance the performance of the NA-EOSM5.

M14 Vacuum Valve II

To take full advantage of the electronic monitoring circuit that is integrated into the NA-EOSM5 a M14 Vacuum Valve II (25624) or M14 Offset Vacuum Valve II (25622) is required. With the valve installed the system constantly measures the vacuum level and reports its status via a multi-color LED easily visible on the top of the housing.  This allows the underwater photographer to confirm watertight integrity even before entering the water and throughout the entire dive. This sophisticated circuit has an advanced temperature compensation capability, so changes in ambient temperature or changes in internal temperature won’t cause a false positive and also functions as a leak detector.

45º Viewfinder or 180º Viewfinder for MIL Housings

Nothing beats a magnifying viewfinder for critical focus and composition. These viewfinders can be used when shooting both still images and video! They provide a large, clear view of the high resolution, 2.36m-dot electronic viewfinder on the EOS M5. The NA-EOSM5 features a convenient lever for switching between the EVF and LCD screen. Available in angled 45º (32205) and Straight (32204) formats, both viewfinders have external dioptric adjustments for dialing in perfect correction matched to the photographer’s eyesight.

WWL-1 and CMC-1 paired with an Canon EF-M 15-45mm f/3.5-6.3 IS STM

If there is one lens that you should own with an EOS M5 it’s the Canon EF-M 15-45mm f/3.5-6.3 IS STM. This mid-range zoom is capable of shooting Ultra wide, mid-range and macro subjects all on the same dive when paired with a WWL-1 wet wide lens and CMC-1 compact macro converter.

With the WWL-1 (83201) mounted, the EF-M 15-45mm f/3.5-6.3 IS STM can be zoomed from approximately 18mm-45mm allowing for the perfect framing in camera. The WWL-1 will focus on its front element for unmatched close focus wide angle performance. In our tests, this combination exceeds the corner sharpness and clarity of even very good wide angle lenses behind dome ports.

For closeup and macro work, the powerful Nauticam Compact Macro Converter CMC-1 (81301) or the less powerful CMC-2 (81302), used for larger macro subjects, can be mounted. These are true water-contact corrective optics. In our tests, we noticed a stunning increase in overall image sharpness when comparing shots taken with no accessory lens at all.

The WWL-1, CMC-1 and CMC-2 can all be mounted via a quick-change bayonet system (83213) allowing fast and easy one handed mounting and removal.  An optional lens caddy  (83222) provides a place to park the lenses when not in use.

Flash Connectors

Reliable automatic flash exposure is available with the NA-EOSM5 and a variety of optically fired flashes. The Inon Z-240, D-2000, S-2000, and Sea & Sea YS-D1/YS-D2 strobes provide automated lighting, precisely reproducing the camera’s pop-up flash at a proportionally greater intensity.  This system yields accurate automatic TTL flash performance – even in manual exposure mode. The NA-EOSM5 comes fiber optic ready and accepts standard Sea & Sea style bushing connections. The Nauticam universal fiber optic cable system (26216) for Inon and Sea&Sea strobes, provide exceptional light transmission for accurate TTL performance.

For strobes without optical connections like Ikelite DS161, DS160 and DS51, a M14 Nikonos 5-pin bulkhead (25056) with a M16 to M14 step down adaptor (25019) can be used. This will provide rapid-firing manual strobe exposure without any additional drain on the camera battery.

External Video Monitor NA-502H

Dual-pixel autofocus is the headline video feature of the EOS-M5. Canon’s dual-pixel autofocus is fast, accurate and smooth. It offers continuous autofocus performance that is similar to many camcorders. The EOS-M5 offers Full-HD (1920 x 1080) 60p video with 5-axis Digital Image Stabilization when used with IS-compatible lenses. External video monitors like the Small HD 501 or 502 HDMI housed in a NA-502H (17906) offer additional features like false color and pixel zoom. Mounting an external monitor on top of the housing can make composition and framing much easier. To use an external monitor housing like the Nauticam NA-502H, add an accessory HDMI bulkhead to the M16 port on the front of the housing. (25028+25032+25046) are needed.
